Tiny Treehouse

Vashon Island, Washington

I designed a tiny house to be built on a private residence nestled in a forest on Vashon Island, a small island just a 20 minute ferry ride away from Seattle. This was designed to be under 200 square feet, per the permitting regulations of the county. It was designed with minimal, restful elements to promote rest and relaxation. I also tried to use space as well as I could - ensuring the windows are oversized, to let in lots of natural light. The entrance is on the back of the house, so that you can step out of the Tiny Treehouse, and be in your own private forested area, with a cedar hot tub nestled in the trees. A pocket door slides to enter the bathroom, due to the small space. However, I didn’t want the small scale to limit opportunities to use varied materials and textuality. So I tried to include various patterns and textures and materials throughout.
